- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2012I started training for a triathlon and so was having to spend a lot of time in the pool. I'm prone to swimmer's ear, so I was worried about that. I figured I'd give these a shot. They are a little odd when you get them, you have to look in the mirror and sort of match the shape to your ear to figure out which one is for which ear. But then you just fit them in gently. It doesn't create a water tight seal, so I was wondering how well they would work. But actually, they work great.
Like I said, it's not a water tight seal, but it does well in keeping most of the water out. And what does get in doesn't seem to bother me, no swimmer's ear. You can also still hear a bit, but I found it's actually really nice because it lets me block out the din of chatter around me so I can focus.
Five stars because they do the job well, they are comfortable and easy to care for. I just give them a rinse with tap water after a swim session and set them back in their case with the lid open. I never swim without them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2017Color: ClearVerified PurchaseNice case that has holes to prevent moisture retention, comfortable to use. Good for for "average" ears - my middle ear is average in size, but the sides aren't the same direction - one points more up and forward than the other - but these are flexible enough that they easily conform to each unique ear. They are easy to position with very little practice, and for me they are very effective at keeping my ears dry. I tend to get water in my ears easily, and it doesn't come out easily, so I'm very happy swimming with these. They are also easy to clean if any earwax is deposited on them. I do a very minimal cleaning when I use them (swishing them off in the pool, or swiping them off on my towel), and they haven't gotten cruddy at all so far. I'd buy these again.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2012Color: BlueVerified PurchaseTo be fair, this is the first ear-plug product I have purchased. I have never used ear-plugs for swimming before. I would say using ear-plugs in swimming is probably one of the best investments you can make. It seems like such a small addition to my gear, but it helped my swimming by a landslide. I swam longer with less distraction of water getting in my ears. It's perfect in terms of keeping water out. The only issue I found with this was the bit of pain after use. Maybe after a while my ears will get used to it, and there will be no pain. Everything is a 5/5 in terms of rating aside from the pain, that's why I rate this a 4/5. But I haven't tried other products yet, once I do, I will update this rating versus the other products.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2014Color: BlueVerified PurchaseI swim daily, and gave up on the mold-able silicone products when I found these TYR earplugs. I bought another pair and gave a them to a swimmer friend, who agrees these are the best design. First, they fit not only into the ear-canal, but also fit the shape of the outer ear for a better seal. Second, they are VERY soft, and third, these plugs are super easy to remove with wet fingers. The only minor drawback to these plugs is that you have a right and left ear model design, so these aren't universal. But, the fact that these ARE designed for each individual ear is exactly what makes them so effective and comfortable. I also have the Mack's AquaBlocks, which are a great universal type insert type plug. But these TYR are my first choice every day. I especially like the custom carrying case, making them easy to care for and store when the laps are over.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2019Color: BlueVerified PurchaseI purchased the ear plugs because I get swimmers ear fairly easily, even from a shower. The ear plugs are easy to use and come with their own storage cases. The only downside is one ear will fit great the other not so well. Some water still gets in but it’s only around the outside so you can easily use a towel to dry up these patches. They did prevent water from going into the ear fully. It works for what I need the product for.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2022Color: ClearVerified PurchasePros:
Easy fit
Allows you hear low sound
Super cheap!!
Cons:
Some infrequent adjustment
Disclosure:
I use these to surf so it’s not for the intended original use (swimming). Works fantastic for surfing, I can still hear ppl call me out when I drop-in/snake.
I fidget with them a bit but they stay in. Casual readjustment after duck-diving or a hard fall to get them back in snug (I did lose one after a few rough duck-dives but for the cost it wasn’t a big loss)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2024Color: BlueVerified PurchaseI pool swim daily and have tried many different plugs. These are the worst. The big flaps actually channel water into your ear canal. It's impossible to get a good seal and have been suffering from water trapped in my ears for half the day until it eventually drains out. I bought another well known industry leading brand (you can probably guess who) at the same time and they perform perfectly.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2016Color: BlueVerified PurchaseI'm a triathlete and swim a lot (usually 3x a week including masters swim). I was having a problem with water in my ears so I cycled through many different brands of ear plugs designed for swimmers. None were perfect only occasionally getting the job done. Specifically, I tried Speedo and whatever the "#1 best seller" is. The Tyr ear plugs fit snug, are comfortable and keep almost all of the water out of my ear canal. There's bound to be a bit of moisture, so what I mean is that as I rotate my head to breathe my ear isn't filling up with water. Another thing I appreciate is that the case has ventilation so that the ear plugs dry and don't harbor mildew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doble filtro, buena estanqueidad!
